Hotel Griffou opens in New York City this week!

YAY!

Well, they did it!

Hotel Griffou officially opened last night in New York.  WOW!  I am totally bummed that I missed the official opening, but I know that I'll be there on Monday, so I won't shed too many tears.
First of all, I have to say this- I am totally, and completely biased as I write this- one of the principals, Jonathan, is one of my most dear friends and I have watched him every step of the way through this process so I can just say- YES!  You did it!  Congratulations!

On another note?  I have actually already been to the space and I have to say it is nothing short of amazing.  It's totally unique, it has secret rooms throughout (probably explains why the space was a little hot spot for all of those party kids in the early 90's) and, among all of the fierce hoopla, it's a haven for new artists.  HELLO.

I have a penchant for all things that support the arts-  and to find a place such as this- a space that will provide a beautiful ambiance, a unique, delicious menu, and a crowd of patrons who could actually appreciate and potentially finance new art- is something very special.  I have complete faith that even tough New Yorkers, during this rainy summer of gloom and doom, will appreciate this flash of optimism in the otherwise burnt New York pan.

Check out a few of the write ups and take it the next step- go and see for yourself!

First Visit To Hotel Griffou: The Old Club Kid Haunt, Mary Lou’s Gets A Makeover From The Best

[Jonathan Hettinger, owner Hotel Griffou with friend Christine Cho]

Hotel Griffou has finally opened its doors and I am thrilled for the principals Larry Poston (Waverly Inn), Johnny Swet (Freeman’s), Jesse Keyes (La Esquina/Goldbar), and Jonathan Hettinger (Cafeteria)  who put blood sweat and tears into it’s fruition. Take one party Freeman’s Alley, one part Waverly Inn, a pinch from La Esquina and Cafeteria in an already scandalous location (the old club kid haunt Mary Lou’s) and you have the makings of a buzz worthy hot spot. The food is great. The décor something only an eclectic New Yorker would appreciate. I will be in
the Studio dining on Lobster Thermidor amongst easels at the communal table.

Come say hi! Hotel Griffou at 21 West 9th St. (646) 448-4632

Status: Opens for walk-ins tonight.
This morning Flo Fab reported that Hotel Griffou—the eagerly anticipated new restaurant and bar owned by some Freemans, Waverly Inn, and Pastis expats—would be opening tonight at 21 West 9th Street. And by golly, a call and a visit to the restaurant early this afternoon confirms. They'll be taking walk-ins tonight and resys starting July 1. According to Grub Street, which serves up a pretty slideshow of the interior, the space is divided into a library, a salon, a studio, a garden with a patio, and a wine cellar. As for the menu, chef Jason Michael Giordano's mains range from $17 for the Griffou Burger to $42 for Stuffed Lobster Tails with brown butter, cocktails are $14, and that duck confit poutine we've been hearing about goes for $12. As always, send all early reports this way.
