Aston’s fireball DB9
The new Sport Pack coupe is for grown-ups only, argues neil lyndonA ston Martin have kept the best wine until last. The Sport Pack version of the DB9 Coupe arrives to revive the jaded palate just at the moment when that model, launched in 2004, is beginning to lose its freshness.
The £110,000 DB9 in standard form was never intended to be a tear-ass fireball, despite having a top speed of near 190 mph and 0-60 mph acceleration in under five seconds. It's meant, instead, to be a dignified and elegant grand tourer for fast, composed and luxurious trans-continental travel for two.
Throwing this stately conveyance into corners would be like offering to go hip-hop krumping with Princess Anne.
But the Sport Pack version is a DB9 with attitude. It is probably the only Aston Martin ever made that might be called one bad mother.
